A Visionary Budget?

It's that oh-so-exciting time on the political calendar - the Budget!

The extraordinary thing about politics and news in the last year is the space given to the environmental agenda.  This budget seems like it won't be too different.

Technology

I have to admit to loving gadgets and I love to see an innovative solution to avoid waste or to create something from nothing (or very little).  Solar products fascinate me because they run and run and run but unlike Duracell batteries which definitely will run out eventually, solar panels will never stop (even when it's cloudy!).

Technology and Money

Combining two strong motivators to act - gadgets and money - is always going to attract attention.  The government is going to announce financial incentives for home-power-generation - ultimately, in my view, the most effective solution to our energy needs.

Vision of the Future

Let's imagine a community ground-source heat pump powered by a community wind turbine.  All the roads, pavements and fences in the community contain photo-voltaic solar panels.  Each household uses roof-tiles made from solar-panels and decorative solar panels for the facade.  Super-efficient devices inside, home-generation outside.  All unobtrusive and compatible with a 21st century lifestyle.  Pipe dream?  I think not.
